Fussy Natural Deodorant Review: What I Checked as a Breastfeeding Mom

Throughout pregnancy and early breastfeeding, I became more careful about products I use close to my body and close to my baby. That is why I started looking for a gentler deodorant routine and tried Fussy Natural Deodorant.

This is my personal Fussy deodorant review as a breastfeeding mom in Germany. It is not medical advice, and I do not want to claim that any deodorant is automatically “safe” for every pregnant or breastfeeding person. If you have allergies, eczema, mastitis concerns, skin irritation, or a newborn with sensitive skin, ask your doctor, midwife or pharmacist.

Can you wear deodorant while breastfeeding?

Many breastfeeding moms do use deodorant. My practical rule is to avoid strong fragrance near the breast/chest area, avoid applying deodorant where the baby directly latches or rubs their face, and stop using any product that causes irritation. “Natural” does not automatically mean irritation-free, and fragrance or essential oils can still bother sensitive skin.

  • Check the ingredient list: especially fragrance, essential oils, baking soda, alcohols or known allergens.
  • Patch test first: try a small amount and wait before using daily.
  • Keep it away from feeding areas: apply only to underarms and wash skin if product transfers near the breast.
  • Ask a professional: if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have broken skin, or are unsure about a specific ingredient.

For ingredient context, the FDA explains that cosmetics must be safe when used as labelled, but it also notes that fragrance ingredients can be complex and that “natural” or “organic” does not automatically mean a product is safe for everyone. Fussy publishes its deodorant ingredients and FAQ pages, so I recommend checking the current formula before buying.

First Impressions: What Is Fussy Natural Deodorant?

Fussy is a UK-based natural deodorant brand that’s making headlines for all the right reasons. One thing that specifically caught my eye was – “Every deodorant you’ve ever used is still in existence”

These are the Fussy product points that interested me, based on their current marketing and ingredient pages:

  • Plastic-free and zero-waste
  • Refillable, with compostable deodorant pods
  • Aluminium-free deodorant format, with ingredient details published by the brand
  • Dermatologically tested
  • Uses ingredients intended to neutralise odour without acting like an antiperspirant

The beautifully designed applicator is made from recycled plastic and is designed to be reused for years. Once you finish a refill, you easily pop in a new one. You get a good feeling that you are doing something good for nature and the environment.

From Spray Cans to Sustainable Swipes

Before I became a mom, I never gave much thought to my deodorant. I used whatever was convenient and smelled nice. But after giving birth, I didn’t want my baby’s sensitive skin exposed to synthetic fragrances.

Because my baby’s head often rests on my chest and even sometimes in the crook of my arm. That closeness made me rethink of my choices and led me to discover Fussy Natural Deodorant.

As I started looking into natural alternatives. After some research, I stumbled upon Fussy, a UK-based brand that’s reimagining what deodorant can be—not just for us, but for the planet too.

Why Cloud Nine Fresh Is My Personal Favourite

Let’s talk about Cloud Nine (Cotton + Sandalwood + Vetiver), the scent I chose for my first Fussy experience. As a breastfeeding mom, I wanted a scent that was light, calming, and wouldn’t overwhelm me or my baby.

Cloud Nine is exactly that. It’s a beautiful blend with notes of cotton, sandalwood and vetiver, this soothing scent leaves me floating on cloud nine.

Cotton reminds me of clean laundry drying in a sunny field, with a soft floral note that lingers subtly throughout the day. The best thing is no overpowering perfume, no synthetic after smell, just fresh, natural comfort.

The scent felt light enough for me personally, but I still avoid applying deodorant anywhere my baby directly touches while feeding.

Is Fussy Natural Deodorant Really Effective?

One of my biggest doubts before switching to a natural deodorant was performance. Would it really keep me fresh through nursing marathons, daily walks, and sleepless nights?

For me, it worked well as a deodorant, but it does not work like an antiperspirant.

Fussy is a deodorant, not an antiperspirant. That means it is designed to help with odour, but it will not block sweat in the same way an aluminium-based antiperspirant does. If you mainly want to stop sweating, this may not feel strong enough for you.

I’ve tested it through long summer days, baby-wearing (slings) walks, and even stressful appointments, and it has held it up. I noticed that it took time to adapt to this deodorant, unlike antiperspirant, it doesn’t block sweat. With continuous usage, you will feel the change.

Why Safety Matters More Than Ever

When you are breastfeeding, your baby spends a lot of time close to your skin. That made me more careful with strong scents and leave-on products, especially around the chest area. I chose Fussy because I wanted a refillable deodorant with published ingredients and a lighter-feeling scent.

Fussy’s formula is marketed as aluminium-free and refillable. If you are sensitive postpartum, still patch test first: some people react to fragrance, essential oils, baking soda, acids or other deodorant ingredients, even when a product is marketed as natural.

For me, the important part is not a perfect label; it is whether my skin tolerates it, whether the scent feels comfortable around my baby, and whether the brand clearly shares ingredient information.

More Than Just Deodorant: A Mission That Matters

What sets Fussy apart isn’t just their product, it’s also their purpose.

Fussy’s mission is simple yet powerful:
Fussy is on a mission to banish single-use plastic from your bathroom. With simple, high-quality and effective personal care products that are backed by science, not buzzwords.”

Their deodorant refills are 100% compostable, made from waste sugarcane, and break down in just 6–12 months. Compare that to the 450 years it takes for a conventional plastic deodorant stick to decompose.

That’s the kind of impact I want to be part of—not just for myself, but for the world I’m raising my baby in.

Refills Are Simple (and Kinda Fun)

Let’s be real, mom life is busy. I don’t have time for high-maintenance beauty rituals and multiple steps of skincare of makeup. That’s how I am living these days. Thankfully, Fussy’s system is simple.

You choose a starter kit (case + refill), pick your scent, and you’re set. I chose a Pink case. When you’re running low, you can easily reorder refills online or set up a subscription so they arrive just when you need them. Check Fussy Deodorant Refills here.

It’s quick, fuss-free, and very satisfying to pop in a new refill. Plus, it looks super cute in my bathroom! I use this deodorant once every day and it stays for long.

Final Thoughts: A Small Change That Feels Big

As a new mom, I’m learning that self-care doesn’t have to be grand gestures. Sometimes, it’s as simple as using a deodorant that makes me feel good, physically, emotionally, and ethically. Fussy ticks all those boxes.

It’s one of those little swaps that make a big difference, not just for me, but for the baby I hold close, and the planet she’ll grow up in.

If you are a breastfeeding mama, pregnant, or just looking for a refillable deodorant with a lighter routine, I can cautiously recommend giving Fussy a try. Start with Cloud Nine if you love soft, dreamy fragrances that don’t overpower. Trust me, it’s the gentle lift your mornings didn’t know they needed. However, you can also check Fussy’s huge collection here.
